Uncategorized October 23rd, 2006

  • The Vista Shell Blog publishes a list of keyboard shortcuts for Vista.
  • Roman published a very comprehensive list of WPF bloggers.
  • csharpformat is a site with a script that generates Html for C#\Xml\etc. code snippets. Very useful for blogging…
  • There are some updates on Google Finance. There are now comparison charts, new chart settings and features, more market data, and the ability to import portfolios from other sites.
I only wish it had information from Tev Aviv’s stock market, or that one of the Israeli finance sites (globes? themarker?) would provide us such user experience.
Yahoo! Finance also has added new features as well…

Top Ten Geek Business Myths

Uncategorized October 3rd, 2006

Ron Garret wrote an interesting post about the top 10 geek business myths.

Since I’ve started my new career as a venture capitalist I have become keenly aware of some of the classic mistakes that geeks make when trying to raise money for a new business. Instead of writing the same comments over and over again I thought I’d try to summarize some of the mistakes that people — especially smart people — make when they decide to try to turn their bright ideas into money. Here then is my top-ten list of geek business myths…

Switched to Nokia 6280

Uncategorized August 9th, 2006

Jeff Nolan just posted that he switched to chocolate and on the same note I just switch my LG U8120 for brand new Nokia’s 6280.

When 3rd generation cell phones were new in Israel, I bought the LG U8120 which was Orange’s “flagship” 3rd gen cell phone just because the hype around it. It turned out to be a crappy phone with very short battery life, sound problems, connectivity issues (bad PC software, IR never worked, no Bluetooth…) and bad user experience.

I finally got fed up with it and decided to upgrade two days ago. I chose Nokia over Motorola’s V3X simply because of the brand.
Nokia’s has the best reputation for making cell phones which makes it a safe bet.

So far the Nokia 6280 is great! After initial charge of ~4 hours it worked for more than 2 days before a re-charge was required.
Its even more impressive because I’ve used the phone intensively over these two (first) days (have to check all the phone features, camera, games…). Just for comparison, the battery for my LG could hardly last a day, and thats when hardly using it…

The 2 mega-pixel camera is great and its main use so far was to backup drawings from the board at the meetings room :-)

Anyway, I hope for Jeff’s sake that LG improved they cell phone-making skills and thats this chocolate thing isn’t just a hype…

Back Online!

Uncategorized August 8th, 2006

After a long week of migrating from my old service provider (livedns) and gaining back control over my ekampf.com domain, my site is finally back online… :-)

Lost My ekampf.com Domain

Uncategorized August 2nd, 2006

I lost my domain name because of my crappy hosting provider.
Hopefully I’ll regain control on that domain in a few days… :S

Clarification:
I’m using several different hosting providers and I think the paragraph above might have hurt or confused the wrong peaple.
The company I was refering to was www.livedns.co.il who not only overcharge for registering a domain (30$ a year!?) through godaddy.com but when
I asked to disconnect their services, did not provide the proper help for transfering this domain name to my godaddy.com account so that I can
continue using it - thus resulting a week where my site was down and I had no email.

Back Online!

Uncategorized July 19th, 2006

Switched hosts and changed the domain DNS settings.
Currently everything is back working…

I’m going to do some redesigning of the blog and my homepage within the next few days so expect new stuff… :-)

Lets talk about sex

Uncategorized August 28th, 2005

Ever since I wrote this post regarding sex in video games (the GTA suit), which obviously contained the word “sex”, I’ve  been getting some interesting\bizarre refferals from search engines regarding the word “sex”. I thought I’d share with you some of these search phrases:

  • pocketpc sex - I wonder what these peaple are looking for…
  • “personal gallery” “having sex”
  • eran sex - Yes please…

Turns out having the word “sex” around (nad maybe some other words) is good for increasing traffic :-)

And while we’re at it, another common search phrase I’m getting refferals from is “what does SAP stands for” (and its permutations). I guess a lot of peaple are pazzled by the meaning of the word SAP. Good thing they have my blog to help them…
